Central Maui

Central | North | South | East | West | Upcountry

Kahakuloa, Kahului, Wailuku (center of commerce & primary airport)

Maui's Central area

The Central Maui area is where "everything is" except for resorts.  Here you will find Maui's major airport, ports for our cruise ship & shipping, Queen Kahumanu Mall, Maui Mall, Maui Memorial hospital, Costco, car dealorships, Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Lowe's, and much, much more.  There are many great communities too so this area is more than just shopping, it's a major residential area too.  Some extend up the base of the West Maui Mountains providing awesome panoramic views.  And don't forget kite surfing at Kanaha or the delightful stream in Iao Valley (pictured)!

North Shore

Central | North | South | East | West | Upcountry

Haiku, Paia, Pauwela, Sprekelsville

Maui's North Shore area

The North Shore is greener than other areas due to frequent rains.  It's also home to a portion of the famous Road to Hana.  Some would say this is the spiritual area of Maui while others would simply say it is the peaceful area.  One thing that most agree on is that Mama's Fish House is the best on Maui and possibly the best in the state.  And surfers really like the waves at Ho'okipa.

South Maui

Central | North | South | East | West | Upcountry

Kihei, Maalaea, Maui Meadows, Wailea, Makena

South Maui area

The South Maui area is mostly sunny and dry with many, many resorts which appeals to travelers including those looking for luxury in Wailea and Makena.  There are also large residential areas and some small to medium size shops.  There are multiple beaches such as Kam I, II, & III, Charley Young Beach, Big Beach, Little Beach, and more.  The road ends at La Peruse with it's visually-stunning black volcanic rock from Maui's last eruption.

East Maui

Central | North | South | East | West | Upcountry

Hana, Kaupo, Kipahulu, Nahiku

East Maui area

Think remote and beautiful when you think of Hana and the surrounding East Maui area.  Wainapanapa State Park is here with it's black sand beach, lava tube, and wet cave.  Hana itself  is a sleeply little village which is home to Red Sand beach which is a favorite to those who know about it.  Further on is Kipahulu and Seven Sacred Pools in Haleakala National Park (pictured).  Scattered throughout are mostly older, Hawaiian-style homes.

West Maui

Central | North | South | East | West | Upcountry

Honokohau, Kaanapali, Kapalua, Lahaina, Napili, Kahana, Honokowai, Olowalu

West Maui area

The West Maui area is mostly dry and sunny.  The drive along the pali to get there is quite scenic although sometimes subject to traffic backups.  Lahaina is a fun tourist town with Front street lined with shops along the ocean.  Don't miss the famous banyan tree while here.  Further north are major resort areas.

UpCountry Maui

Island Region Overview

Central | North | South | East | West | Upcountry

Kula, Ulupalakua, Kanaio, Makawao, Olinda, Haliimaile, Pukalani

Maui's UpCountry

Maui Upcountry with it's higher elevation has cooler temperatures and panoramic views.  A fire in the fireplace may feel good in the evenings.  With grocery, hardware, restaurant, nursery, and other shopping nearby one need not leave this beautiful area often.  When one does drive down to other parts of the island, the 4-lane highway makes it quick and easy.
